ABSTRACT

Disruptive Technologies have created radical transformations in different industry fields. They also changed principles governing market and competitions. This role was considered an advantage in different organizational aspects including performance, effectiveness and competitiveness. The attendance of these technologies was not bounded by these aspects alone, it has also flourished in crises and specifically Covid-19 pandemic. One of these disruptive technologies that caught interest in this crisis is cloud collaboration platforms (CCPs). CCPs were essential and critical in a key sector during the pandemic, which was education. The pandemic outbreak caused a mandatory conversion towards online education leaded by CCPs. Demonstration of these platforms during the pandemic was accompanied with their evaluation using different criteria. Still, these criteria were neither clearly justified in their reasons of use nor classified according to their importance during the pandemic. In this paper, a model of CCPs evaluation criteria during the pandemic is presented. This model is based on previous research criteria and applies inductive approach through discovering users experience regarding these criteria during the pandemic. Functionality, reliability and usability in addition to their sub-standards were the main criteria that have been assessed and ranked by users. The users who rated the criteria were academics and experts of a university in Jordan and they were engaged in online education using CCPs. Evaluation was conducted using a quantitative approach using an online questionnaire which was distributed to these academics. Findings show that security and understandability are the most significant criteria that we should look after during the pandemic. Fault tolerance, accuracy, suitability and maturity standards have the second priority and finally, compliance, recoverability, learnability and interoperability have the third priority. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Diaphragmatic hernias (DH) in most cases are the consequence of a diaphragmatic trauma causing a missed injury. Less frequently, DHs are congenital. Case Presentation: A 52 years old patient came to our attention due to a worsening severe dyspnea. A chest CT scan were performed, showing an extensive left-side DH.We present the video of the surgical procedure. The patient mentioned a severe left hemithorax trauma occurred almost twenty years before due to a motorbike accident. Possibly, a diaphragmatic injury was not diagnosed at the time. Subsequently, a Covid-19-related chronic cough resulting in a persistently increased intra abdominal pressuremayhave caused the herniation of abdominal viscera. The surgical procedure was laparoscopic. The whole greater omentum and most of the transverse colon were herniated and, after a thorough adhesiolysis between the herniated tissues and the left diaphragmatic crus, the DH was reduced. It was confirmed the presence of a 8 cm defect of the left hemidiaphragm, it was repaired with a absorbable continuous suture. A 08x10 cm Bio-A patch was positioned over. The herniated tissues were meticulously examined and showed no signs of damage. Conclusion(s): Diaphragm's injuries are unfortunately difficult to diagnose in an acute setting, thus remaining often unbeknownst to the surgeon. Some patients never develop any symptoms because of such missed diaphragmatic injuries. Some others instead, due to an increase in the intra abdominal pressure, may develop symptomatic DHs. In the latter case, surgical management becomes mandatory.

ABSTRACT

This study aims at finding out the effectiveness degree of distance learning at Zarqa University in light of Corona Pandemic from faculty members’ and students’ point of view. The descriptive survey methodology is used. The study is applied to a stratified random sample of faculty members and students at Zarqa University, whose number was (210) faculty members and (1261) male and female students. The questionnaire, which consists of (40) items, distributed into three domains, is used as a tool to collect data, after ensuring its validity and reliability. The findings show that the mean of the effectiveness degree of distance learning at the university is medium from faculty members’ point of view with a mean (3.67) and a standard deviation of (0.47). The study found that the effectiveness degree of distance learning at the university is also medium from the students’ point of view. The mean is (3.36) with a standard deviation of (0.62). The findings indicate that there are significant differences at (α ≤ 0.05) between the views of faculty members and students’ views on the overall degree and the three domains in favor of faculty members. There are no significant differences at (α ≤ 0.05) of the degree of effectiveness of distance learning at the university from the faculty members’ point of view due to the academic rank and gender variables. While there are significant differences attributed to the variable of the faculty, in favor of the humanities faculties. There are significant differences in the degree of effectiveness of distance learning at the university from the students’ point of view in the total score and the three domains attributed to gender, in favor of males. There are significant differences due to the variable of the faculty in the domains of (Distance learning effectiveness and Distance learning system) in favor of humanities faculties. ABSTRACT

Covid-19 has dramatically spread globally and dramatically made several effects in almost all sectors. Electronic commerce and electronic payment systems are important sectors which affected directly by the Covid-19 pandemic. Online markets and electronic payment systems have been recognized as one of the fastest-growing technology in the last decade even within normal situations. However, several factors may influence such growth, which many consider as barriers or enablers of using the electronic payment system. This study aims to shed the light on the influence of Covid-19 on the electronic payment system from trust and competence perspectives. The study employed both qualitative and quantitative methodological approaches for data collection and analysis. The data was collected from 31 semi-structured interviews, 718 surveys, and annual reports. NVivo, Microsoft Visio, and Microsoft power business intelligence were used for the data analysis process. As a part of this study, a proposed framework has been developed which includes both technical and managerial parts. © 2021 Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science. All rights reserved.
